Mahler’s brooding, enigmatic seventh symphony represents the composer at his most modern. Featuring such unconventional symphonic instruments as a cowbell, a mandolin, and a guitar, the symphony, which met with a baffled reception at its 1908 premiere, has gone on to ignite lively debate among scholars and composers worldwide.
