PROKOFIEV Excerpts from Cinderella
Drama and passion abound! Following the famous “timpani roll” opening, hear Grieg’s immensely popular Piano Concerto unfurl from the fingers of celebrated Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan, the first-ever Artist-in-Association with the New York Philharmonic, praised as "the complete artist" by Music Director Alan Gilbert. A pair of story-driven compositions complete the RPO's opening concerts. Prokofiev’s lushly romantic ballet score conjures up all the magic and fantasy of the beloved fairy tale. And, you can feel the racing pulse of history’s most legendary ladies’ man in Strauss’ famous tone poem, one of the all-time great showpieces for orchestra.
Join conductors and special guests for a free, fun, and lively discussion about the music before each Philharmonics Series concert. Talks start one hour before the concert and end with ample time for you to refresh before the concert begins. Talks are held on the orchestra level of the Eastman Theater.
